Rubber Capillary Rheometer

The RCR is optimized for fast measurement results and simple operation in order to deliver precise results quickly, especially in quality control (QC). A typical measurement only takes about 2-5 minutes.

In open extrusion mode, the RCR is used as a standard capillary rheometer to determine viscosity at up to three shear rates per barrel fill. The shear rate is calculated from the punch speed and the shear stress from the piston force.

In the optional injection mode, the material is injected at constant pressure into an injection mold that is heated to a higher temperature independently of the test chamber. This allows both the flow and vulcanization behaviour of the rubber or compound to be characterized directly and close to the process.

The viscosity of duromers such as epoxy or phenolic resins can also be measured. A special, easy-to-clean channel with a split, easily removable die is used for this purpose.

Good to know

The capillaries are easy to change and different channel diameters and die geometries are available. Switching between the two test modes is program-controlled, without the need to convert the instrument.
